Local favourite place to eat: Lost In

In the middle of Principe Real is a little spot with a spectacular view over the city. It’s a very cool and peaceful place to have breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, or just some drinks. With cosy corners suitable for all times of the year, and decor that transports you to a courtyard in India, you can savour delicacies with an eastern flair.

Lost In, Lisbon

Local favourite thing to do: Mouraria

One of the most historical spots in Lisbon, the Mouraria neighbourhood is an old medieval quarter designated as a cultural, social, and tourist site. The neighbourhood’s association, Renovar a Mouraria, has an extensive cultural program that includes world music concerts and traditional Portuguese Fado.

In Mouraria, you can dine on the most international cuisine in the city, enjoy some karaoke with your friends, or just drop by for a lazy cinema night. Remember Mouraria’s motto: “This house is yours”. Come visit!

Athens

destination main image - athens

Athens is one of our favourite cities to have emerged from economic struggles and stepped up its game in the past 10 years.  There are more streets for pedestrians, so it’s easier to walk around. All the museums have been renovated, the hotels. Four or five years ago, they got a new Acropolis museum, near the Acropolis site. As well as two extra lines for the metro.

Beyond spending time exploring the ruins, Athens is a great place for people watching and of course, you can’t top Greek food. In a city full of tourist traps, get a true taste of Athens by exploring it with a local.

Taste of Athens

See the ‘big five’ of Greek cuisine in their natural habitat: ouzo, feta, olives, olive oil, and koulouri! If you don’t know what koulouri is you soon will as this Athens tour explains it all live as you eat it (but not before you Instagram it).

Amsterdam

Local favourite place to eat: Strand West

Strand West, Amsterdam

There’s a beach in Amsterdam? Why yes there is! And it’s only a 10 minute bike ride from Centraal Station! What’s unique about this place is that the view is of barge traffic, which is kinda atypical compared to other urban waterfront views.

Local favourite thing to do: The Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum is truly one of the most outstanding museums in Amsterdam, and few people appreciate the magnitude of the Dutch trading empire. A great alternative to the more popular museums in the city, the Maritime will give you the real story behind the Dutch culture…and as a bonus you can see one of the city’s top buildings.

Berlin

Be sure to check out these top picks below. And if you’re still looking for more local gems, click around and explore the Everplaces map below or download our Berlin iPhone app!

Local favourite place to eat: Dudu

DUDU, Berlin

This stylish restaurant near Rosenthaler Platz serves mouth-watering Asian fusion food. Take a seat on one of the long wooden communal benches and indulge in what many Berliners see as the best sushi in town. The rolls and the seafood bowl are outstanding!

Local favourite thing to do: Tempelhof airfield

Contrasts clash at the remarkable Tempelhof airfield. Surrounded by monumental historic terminal buildings and the minarets of Sehitlik Mosque, Berlin’s famous abandoned airport has turned into an unconventional park. In fact, it’s the largest in Europe! The vast, wide-open spaces of the former airfied are a paradise for cyclists, joggers, skaters. Or, if you wish, you could just grab a blanket, enjoy the sun, and watch the kite flyers make their labs. Pure Berlin!
