We’ll begin this Escazú tour in the city’s main plaza, in front of the beautiful church of San Miguel Arcángel. Take in your surroundings as your local guide kicks off your adventure by telling you the tales behind the church, and some of the fascinating legends that originated in this area. We’ll take a stroll and visit adobe houses that were built more than 200 years ago, learning about how they were made and the families that lived there.
We’ll continue to tour Escazú through different neighbourhoods, soaking up the vibrant culture and getting to know this city from a local’s perspective. Join in with local traditions such as the daily trip to the bakery, a ritual for many Costa Ricans and a precursor to their essential freshly-brewed morning coffee. We’ll walk through Escazú’s historical streets and to churches, diving into the stories of the multicultural families living here, and how the neighbourhoods have changed and grown over the years.
Next, onto the supernatural stuff! Escazú is a city rich with legends of haunted spirits and witches, and this Escazú tour will lead you right to these tales. Your local guide will tell you all about the medicine men and witch doctors that walk the streets of Escazú, and let you in on all the secrets behind the city’s enchanting and bewitching (pun intended!) history.
Finally, this tour in Escazú will take a shift from chilling to filling, as we head to a traditional cantina, or bar, to learn about the local food and drink. Sample some snacks and drinks like chicha and mazamorra as you relax into your surroundings, watching the locals pull up a pew and play cards, and chat about their day. This tour will finish in a lively neighbourhood, giving you the opportunity to explore the city of Escazú further. Your local guide will be more than happy to give you some great recommendations on where to eat dinner, or help you in finding your way back to the centre of San Jose.
