Culture shock rating
Worried we’re going to shock your senses? Relax! We believe part of the fun of travel is immersing yourself in the destination and its culture, meeting the people, and learning what makes the place tick. We’ve got a wide range of tours with something for everybody. The cultural shock rating ranks how different the experience is from most Western cultures. But no matter the level, don’t worry, you’ll have a local, in-the-know guide with you every step of the way.
Low
Consider these tours your 101 intro to a place. Transportation might be private or a very comfortable public option, and the activities are usually visits to iconic sites and locations that are familiar to most Western cultures – but that will still give you fantastic insight into a destination.
Medium
Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether that’s on a packed public bus or in a local market off the tourist trail. There might be a few language barriers or unfamiliar cultural customs, and you’ll get an experience different from what you're used to at home.
High
You're out there in the global community! We’re going to take you down streets you’d rarely explore on your own, introduce you to local customs and languages, and take you for a ride in whatever transport is available. Get ready to take it as it comes, whatever comes. There might be a shock, but oh man, it’s worth it.

Physical rating
Worried our tours are too tough? Relax! From leisurely strolls to muscle-burning treks, we’ve got a wide range of tours with something for everybody. The physical grading gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour.
Low
Slow and steady is all you need here. These tours have very limited physical activity, such as walking relatively flat streets, sites, or markets, and climbing in and out of the transport provided.
Medium
Not too hard, not too soft, these tours are just right! You can expect a bit of physical activity, but nothing overly challenging – perhaps walking up and down hills, riding a bike for up to 30 kilometers along mostly flat terrain, or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.
High
Get ready for a workout! These tours are our most challenging and involve intense walking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, or bike riding. You could be making steep climbs by foot or pedal, or working your core in the water. We recommend you have a good level of fitness to join this tour.

Ancient pyramids, a quaint local town, and a welcoming family dinner…sounds like a recipe for an amazing day outside Mexico City!
Head out of Mexico City by public transit, experiencing how locals move about this crowded city. Hop off at San Martin de las Piramides, a town near the archaeological area of the Teotihuacan Pyramids, and spend some time exploring this local town.
Next up on this Mexico tour, pay a visit to the cactus product factory, where you’ll find jams, candies, spicy lollies, alcoholic creams, and more products made by the local people from the endemic vegetation such as nopal, xoconostle and tuna (cactus fruit not tuna fish!). In the factory you’ll see these cactus varieties, have some samples if you wish, and if you like them you can pick up some of the exotic products as souvenirs.
We’ll continue the afternoon meandering the quiet streets of this town, and stop for a visit at a local home to visit a family who makes one of the best “pulques” (alcoholic sacred Aztec drink) of the region, according to locals. Your Urban Adventures guide will explain the process, meaning, and history of this ancient Aztec drink, extracted from the heart of the maguey (another kind of cactus).
Once we finish our Pulqueria visit, we’ll make our way to the Teotihuacan Pyramids, "where the men become gods" (meaning of the Aztec word Teotihuacan). Before entering, we’ll take a look of the murals museum, which contains a nice collection of pieces found in the area, as well as reproductions of the local houses where the inhabitants of the time use to live. We’ll begin our visit with the impressive Moon Pyramid, with a guided Teotihuacan tour to learn about the history, meaning, and architecture of one of the most representative icons of Latin America.
We’ll continue our exploration with a walk through the Calzada de los Muertos (Dead Pass) to reach the Sun Pyramid, which is the tallest and most spectacular in the area. We will have the chance to climb 63 metres up to the top, without the crowds of people that come in the morning – we’ll have the whole pyramids to ourselves! Once on top you will feel the amazing energy that flows through the pyramids, and you will feel fully recharged and peaceful!
You will have some time to relax and enjoy the pyramids before we go to our final, and perhaps most awaited stop of the day – dinner! From the pyramids, we’ll head back to a local family’s home, where you’ll get the chance to see how locals live outside Mexico City. You’ll be welcomed in to their home, experience customary dinner routines and conversations, and enjoy some real local flavours of typical Mexican kitchens. Delicious!
After dinner, we’ll head back to Mexico City, happy, full, and relaxed from our wonderful day exploring life and pyramids outside the hustle and bustle of the big city.
